Are games halal in Islam? The short and sweet answer: YES! But hold on to your controllers because there’s more to this delightful story. Let’s dive into why games are not only permissible but also a playful part of our lives.

Sometimes games are not halal, check out why!
First, What is even a game?
First, let’s define what a game is. A game is like that fun adventure you embark on with rules to follow, all in pursuit of a goal, and, of course, it’s gotta be playful! Now, if you take the playfulness out of a game, it turns into a chore. Ever tried memorizing something and struggled? but then you added a sweet reward or a milkshake treat for reaching the end of a chapter? Suddenly, it felt less like a chore and more like a quest with a golden pot at the rainbow’s end. That’s what we call ‘gamification,’ making things fun and playful, thus, turning it into a game.

Why we need games and play
Are we all natural game players?
Playfulness isn’t just human; it’s universal! Kids and animals alike are happiest when they’re having a blast. It’s how they learn, explore, and understand their world. Play is like our secret language with the universe, a way of being human.
So, knowing that games and play are fundamental in our existence, it’s clear that Islam gives them the green light. The better question might be, how could they ever be ‘haram’ (forbidden)?
Now, think about it. Back in the day, there were no PlayStation 5 or smartphone games, but the concept of games and play has been around forever, evolving with time. Games are just a way for us to embrace that playfulness. And guess what? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was no stranger to playfulness either.

How can games be ‘Haram’.
Even Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
Let’s take a fun example: Racing! We all love a good race with friends, right? Well, so did the Prophet. His wife, Aisha, once outraced him, and they had a good laugh about it. Later, when she had put on a bit of weight, they raced again, and he won. Then he said, ‘This cancels that’. In other words, ‘We’re even now!’ (in a playful way, of course). (The actual hadith is reported by Abu Dawood) Ibn Kathir (Tafsir Ibn Kathir 4:19) said: “It was the character of the Prophet to live in a beautiful manner with his wives, being cheerful and kind to them, generously spending on them, and laughing with them”.

Different ways the Prophet Muhammad played
So, it's halal then
In conclusion, playing games and having a good time is perfectly halal (permissible) in Islam, as long as it doesn’t take over your obligations, well-being, character, and dignity. There may be some other specifics which muslims should stay away from that are in games, but generally, the Prophet himself laughed and played with his family and companions, and there are tales of epic pranks (seriously, you modern pranksters have nothing on The prophets companion ‘Nuayman’)!
So, go ahead, play those games, enjoy life, and don’t forget to smile. Just remember to strike a balance between fun and seriousness in your life. Now, let’s level up and enjoy some halal gaming!

Alright, let’s dive into the intriguing world of gaming and its connection to Islamic teachings! Now, games themselves aren’t inherently ‘haram’ (forbidden in Islamic law), but there’s a spirited debate among scholars about what might make them ‘haram’ or discouraged in Islam. It’s like trying to solve a puzzle with no one-size-fits-all answer. But wait, don’t fret; we’ve got an article that’s going to shed some light on this matter.

Gi'me the list...
Now, here’s the scoop on what might push some games into the ‘haram’ or disliked category:
Content Check!
First up, it’s all about the game’s content. If it’s showing stuff like nudity, promoting immoral violence, gambling, or alcohol – things that don’t jive with Islamic values – it’s probably getting a ‘haram’ or not-so-favourable rating.
Music!
Some muslims may find the music used in games uncomfortable, leading them to mute while playing (I guess there should always be an option to mute the songs). This could be for various reasons but on the surface, many muslims find instruments to be impermissable and the use of music to be a form of emotional manipulation, often for bad reasons. Natural sounds like birds chirping, nature and people humming are often used as an alternative and to use music as a means to generate positive emotion.
Time Management!
Islam values time, and it’s all about spending it wisely. If gaming starts gobbling up so much of your time that you’re missing out on religious duties like prayers, that’s a red flag.
Battling Addiction!
Islam gives any addiction the cold shoulder. If you’re gaming to the point where your health, family, or other responsibilities take a hit, that’s a no-go.
Health Matters!
Excessive gaming that messes with your physical or mental well-being can raise eyebrows in the Islamic context.
Wallet Watch
Spending tons of money on games when you should be using those resources for essential needs or charitable acts? That’s considered irresponsible.
Social Glitches!
If gaming turns you into a hermit, neglecting your family and social responsibilities, that’s not in line with Islamic teachings

Now, here are a few games and game mechanics that Islamic scholars have some reservations about:
Chess!
While the Hadiths don’t directly mention chess, later sources suggest that some scholars weren’t too thrilled with chess. They thought it could distract from religious duties and maybe involve a bit too much gambling. But hey, if you’re not gambling and you’re keeping up with your duties, it might be alright.
Dice Games!
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised against games involving dice. Or in other words, games that make you gamble on chance. The reasoning? Islam’s all about certainty and destiny, so relying on luck and chance doesn’t quite fit the bill.
Remember, this blog post is like a general roadmap, but when it comes to these matters, it’s best to consult with an Islamic cleric you trust. They can give you a clearer picture of how these rulings apply and provide some personalized guidance. Happy gaming, folks!”

“Happy are those who find fault with themselves instead of finding fault with others.” – Prophet Muhammad
In the exhilarating realm of digital games, where East and West merge seamlessly, it’s high time we recognised the profound unity that often lies beneath the surface of our cultural differences. The way our media sometimes portrays the ‘other’ has led to a notable absence of virtuous representation. Take Islam, for instance; it’s all too frequently associated with war games, despite the fact that the majority of Muslims consider this portrayal a far cry from the true essence of their religion, which they rightfully call ‘Peace.’

Islam, being the second-largest religion globally, boasts a remarkably diverse community that spans from the enchanting landscapes of West Africa’s Ghana to the bustling metropolis of Dubai in the Middle East. Yet, despite comprising roughly one-third of the world’s population, there’s been a noticeable hesitancy in incorporating Islamic morals, which are universal, into games and media as a whole.
